4/17/2014 Churches plan special events and services for Easter

Easter is this Sunday, April 20, and churches all across the Wet Mountain Valley are celebrating. The Easter events are being kick started by the men of the Community United Methodist Church. They are preparing and hosting an Easter Brunch on April 20 at 9 a.m.
The brunch lands between services at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The brunch is a fundraiser for Michael Batson’s trip to Carnegie Hall. Batson has been nominated by the Music Department at the school.
The Methodist Church is also going to hold a Seder Dinner on April 17 at 6 p.m. at the church. There will be a taize service on Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Meditative singing and scripture reading will be held.
An Easter Children’s egg hunt is going to begin at 11 a.m. at the church. For more information, contact Pastor Deborah Christine at 783-2511.
St. Patrick’s Anglican Church will be holding Good Friday services tomorrow at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, Eucharist services will get underway at 11 a.m.
The Cowboy Church is holding a pancake breakfast at 8 a.m. There will be a church service held at 4 p.m. with a kid’s program. A potluck will be served afterwards. For more information, contact Pastor Larry Smith at 783-2676.
The Sangre de Cristo Mennonite Church is holding special Good Friday services at 7 p.m. On Easter Sunday, they will have an Easter breakfast at 8 a.m. followed by a unique Tenebrae service filled with worship and reflection from the foot of the cross at 9 a.m. A message of hope will be brought by Pastor Dave Schlabach. St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will celebrate Easter with Good Friday on April, 18 at 10:30 a.m. Father David Crippen will provide a message. Regular Easter services will be held on Sunday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m. The message will be provided by Father Rickman Nuncell, followed by a breakfast.
The Hope Lutheran Church will hold Maundy Thursday services on April 17 at 7 p.m., Good Friday services at 7 p.m. and Easter Sunday services at 8 a.m. and again at 10:30 a.m. Easter breakfast will be served in Lange Memorial Hall at 9 a.m. For more information, call 719-285-5110.
The Wetmore Baptist Church is going to host a brunch potluck on Easter, April 20, starting at 9:30 a.m. Easter services will be held at 10:45 a.m. with special music.
Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church will hold Maundy Thursday on April 17. Mass for the Lord’s Supper will be at 3 p.m.
The Catholics will celebrate Good Friday on April 18 at 3 p.m. Holy Saturday will be commemorated with an Easter Vigil Mass on April 19 at 7:45 p.m.
Solemnity of Easter Sunday, Resurrection of the Lord, will be held on April 20 at 11 a.m.

The Westcliffe Community Church is celebrating their 100 year anniversary. They are hosting four community events in 2014. The first is a community breakfast on Easter Sunday after a sunrise service at 6 a.m. on Jackson Hill, which is two miles east of Wetmore on Highway 96.
