4/10/2014 Churches schedule special Holy Week, Easter services

This year Easter is on Sunday, April 2. Local churches are preparing for the Christian celebration through a variety of special services and events.
 Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church is starting Easter off with Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion on April 13. Mass begins at 11 a.m. It will hold Maundy Thursday that same week on April 17. Mass for the Lord’s Supper will be at 3 p.m.
The Catholics will celebrate Good Friday on April 18 at 3 p.m. Holy Saturday will be commemorated with an Easter Vigil Mass on April 19 at 7:45 p.m.
Solemnity of Easter Sunday, Resurrection of the Lord, will be held on April 20 at 11 a.m.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church will celebrate Easter with Good Friday on April 18 at 10:30 a.m. and Easter Sunday at 10:30 a.m. For more information, call 783-2477.
The Sangre de Cristo Mennonite Church, on 120 Jerry Drive in Westcliffe, will hold its Good Friday service on April 18 at 7 p.m. It will be celebrated with a unique Tenebrae service filled with worship and reflections from the foot of the cross.
Easter breakfast will be served at 8 a.m. with an Easter service with a stirring message of hope from Pastor Dave Schlabach. The service will begin at 9 a.m.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints plans on holding a special Easter meeting on Sunday, April 20. For more information, contact President Don Darnell at 783-3751.
The Community United Methodist Church is holding a Seder Dinner on April 17 at 6 p.m. at the church. It is requested that those who attend sign up ahead of time.
There will be a taize service on Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m. Meditative signing and scripture reading will be held.
“There is going to be regular services on Easter,” said Pastor Deborah Christine. “The services will be at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. with an Easter brunch between them at 9 a.m.”
A children’s Easter egg hunt at the church begins at 11 a.m.

The Wetmore Baptist Church is hosting an Easter brunch at 9:30 a.m. with morning worship and special music at 10:45 a.m.
