9/26/2013 Mill Levy Forum and Candidate Forum

Mill Levy Forum

Everyone interested about the future of health care in Custer County is encouraged to attend tonight’s public forum on the Custer County Hospital District’s proposed mill levy to fund the local Emergency Medical Services/Ambulance Corps.

The forum will be held in the Cliff Lanes community room at 6:30 p.m. this evening, Thursday, Sept. 26.

Leading the discussion will be Joe Arbuckle, chairman of the hospital district’s board of directors.

The district will ask voters in November to approve a property tax increase of three mills, which is expected to generate some $276,000 annually for the local ambulance services. (The mill levy increase will be on top of the hospital district’s current levy of 4.9 mills, which funds operations at the Custer County Medical Clinic.)

A number of economic dynamics are placing local ambulance services at risk, and those problems – as well as possible solutions – will be discussed this evening.

A similar forum will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24. Both provide an opportunity for citizens and taxpayers to learn more about the proposal.

Candidate Forum

Also on the ballot in November will be the race for three seats on the C-1 board of education.

The Custer County High School government class will be hosting a candidate’s forum next Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in the school multi-purpose room.

All seven candidates have been invited. Each will be allowed to make introductory remarks and answer questions fielded by the government class.

This will be an opportunity for the voting public to meet the candidates and learn about their stances on public education and our local school district.
