9/26/2013 Saturday’s football game to climax C-1 homecoming

Homecoming weekend has finally arrived and the parade, sports and dance are upon us. The homecoming royalty has also been announced. They are senior royalty: Haley Vieau, Sydney Feldmann, Tyler Havens and Willie Brandon; junior royalty: Madeleine Woods, Brandi Platchek, Beau Parmenter and Kody Aldrich; sophomore royalty: Jessica Sturtevant and Geoffroy Mellini; and freshman royalty: Ashley Gillum and Casey Brandon.

On Friday, September 27, the Powder Puff game will be battled out at 3 p.m.

The PTSO homecoming tailgate party will begin at 4 p.m. and go until 7 p.m. in the west parking lot. Hamburgers or a brat meal cost $5. Hotdogs will go for $3.

Peach Fuzz Volleyball will be played at 6:30 p.m.

Following the Volleyball game, the bonfire will begin. At the bonfire, the Spirit Squad will be in charge, the coaches will say a few words, and the homecoming royalty will be crowned. There will be limbo, a teacher pie-in-the-face fundraiser, marshmallow roasting and a water balloon catch.

On Saturday, September 28, the homecoming parade will begin at 10 a.m. in downtown Westcliffe. "For the parade," said football Head Coach Troy Bomgardner, "each class will have their own float." Each float will present school spirit class pride, and will have a special magical flare. "The homecoming theme is Harry Potter," Bomgardner said. "The kids will have fun with that."

The parade will begin at the elementary school parking lot, head down Main Street, then turn around at the Westcliffe Supermarket and return to the school.

The Bobcat football team will play Walsenburg’s John Mall at 1 p.m., followed by volleyball at 4 p.m.

The homecoming dance, sponsored by the Junior Class, will be held from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Homecoming mums are still for sale. The big ribbons, that can be personalized, are available for purchase through a cheerleader or at Salty Pines located at 411 Main Street in Westcliffe. A large mum costs $20. Garters for the guys cost $10. Junior mums cost $12. The mums will also be available at the football game.
