|6/13/2013||Fire ban now in effect|
Custer County is now under a stage one fire ban. After Sheriff Fred Jobe and Fire Chief Jerry Livengood discussed the low humidity, winds and hot days, they decided to put the stage one ban into effect starting Thursday, June 13. Also effective immediately, the Forest Service and BLM have issued a stage one fire ban.
The following actions are prohibited on private and public land, roads and trails:
1. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire except a fire within a permanent constructed fire grate within distance of continual water source.
2. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
Several large fires, including the 4,000 acre Royal Gorge Fire west of Canon City, continue to rage throughout Colorado.
