2/28/2013 Thundercats, the Heat are champs in youth basketball

Bobcat Youth Basketball wrapped up an amazing season with a full house on Feb. 23.

The Younger Division Champion was the Thundercats coached by Shelly Penkoff, with the Cougars placing second.

The Championship game was awesome with Cameron Penkoff scoring the winning free throw with 13 seconds to go in the game. The final score was 20-19.

The Younger Division was led by Ben Penkoff from the Cougars, who scored 113 points for the season. He received the High Scorer Award.

Ben Penkoff also received the Cory Schlabach Award, presented by Sean Schlabach.

River Stein from the Thundercats received the Team Player Award, Kaylie Jones received the Most Improved Award, and the Defensive Player Award went to Garrett Stepanich from the Wildcats.

Coach’s Awards were given to Memphis Curry from the Thundercats, Morgan Foster from the Cougars, Weston Jones from the Wildcats and Zach Fischer from the Lions.

The Older Division Champion was the Heat coached by Kristen Foster, with the Nuggets placing second.

The Older Division was led by Nick Buffum from the Heat who scored 73 points for the season. Buffum received the High Scorer Award. Patrick Post from the Nuggets received the Cory Schlabach Award presented by Dave Schlabach. Lindsey Gillmore from the Spurs received the Team Player Award, Elias Zeller from the Nuggets received the Most Improved Award, and the Defensive Player Award went to Wyatt Aldrich from the Heat.

Coach’s Awards were given to Skylar Runnalls from the Heat, Brittney Brandon from the Nuggets, Sierra Stepanich from the Bulls and Wesley Curtis from the Spurs.

Special thanks go to the league’s volunteers including coaches Shelly Penkoff, Julie Stepanich, Rose Murphy and Kristen Foster; substitute coaches Kim Stein, Tyler Stein and Gary Fischer; referees John Bellantoni, Roger Squire and JD Henrich; score table folks Duane Foster, Ross Penkoff and Troy Bomgardner; and set up and tear down coordinators Gary Henrich and crew.
