2/14/2013 Movie projector at Jones Theater to fire up

The Jones Theater reopens March 1 with Academy Award nominated movies.

“Les Miserables,” which was nominated for best picture, is playing March 1-2. This PG-13 musical extravaganza and drama starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe tells the tale of ex-prisoner Jean Valjean who is hunted by ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

The action adventure fantasy tiled “Life of Pi” plays March 8-9. Starring Irrfan Khan and Rafe Spall, the PG movie is about a 16-year-old Indian boy whose passage to a new life in America aboard a freighter ends in a shipwreck in the Pacific. He is left to fend for himself on a life raft that also houses an orangutan, hyena and Bengal tiger.

On March 15 and 16, the R- rated western action adventure “Django Unchained” starring Jamie Foxx and Leonardo Di Caprio is on the screen.

Django is a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz. Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles -- dead or alive. Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side.

The March 22-23 and March 29-30 movies will be announced at a later date. Unless otherwise noted, all movies start at 7:30 p.m.
