| 1/17/2013 | Sixty-six non-profits to share $253,000 from Spirit Campaign |
Donations have continued to stream in to the 2012 Custer County Community Spirit Campaign, and the total amount to be distributed to local non-profits is now $253,139. That’s a five and a half percent increase over last year’s total of $240,000, and the most ever received in the campaign’s nine-year history. Approximately 700 donors contributed more than $216,000 to the campaign, which ran from mid-November to Dec. 31. Those funds were matched with more than $37,000, of which $20,000 came from the Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation, $10,000 from long-time partner the Anschutz Foundation of Denver, and more than $7,000 from individual contributors. Individual contributions ranged from $10 to $16,000. Sixty-six non-profit organizations headquartered in Custer County, or providing direct services here, will benefit from the campaign. Donors specify one or more non-profits to receive their contributions. The top recipients include the San Isabel Land Protection Trust ($27,851), the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District ($19,642), Custer County Search and Rescue ($16,616), the Hospital District and Clinic ($12,130), and the Westcliffe Center for Performing Arts ($10,890). This year, the contributions will be mailed to the non-profits. Those checks are expected to be mailed by Feb. 1.
