1/10/2013 Commissioners to meet state aeronautics officials

As was expected, discussion at Tuesday’s commissioner meeting included the county airport.

Commissioner Allen Butler, who is handling day-to-day operations, announced he and Commissioner Lynn Attebery are meeting with the State Division of Aeronautics officials in Denver later this week to get an update on the status of the county’s open grant for the taxiway crack seal project.

Butler also said he will be at the Jan. 28 Division of Aeronautics grant hearings.

Additionally, Butler announced five folks had expressed interest in serving on the Airport Advisory Board. They are Dallas Anderson, Mary Seifert, Bob Jolley, Art Nordyke and Bob Koester. All have some type of experience, said Butler: Anderson through the U.S. Air Force; Seifert, a pilot; Jolley and Nordyke, former Airport Authority Board members; and Koester, a mechanic and builder of prop planes.

A five-member airport advisory board was created with the slate named above unanimously appointed to serve one year.

Butler noted he and Jolley are certified to complete quality fuel control assurance inspections and they are certified to teach quality fuel control assurance to others. Anderson has expressed interest in such certification.

A workshop is also in the works to help with the transition from an Airport Authority Board to an advisory board. That change in how the county airport is operated took place Dec. 28 via a two to one vote of the commissioners.

Lastly, airport discussion has been placed on the Jan. 31 commissioners meeting agenda. All airport advisory board members will be invited to attend.
