Five incumbents and one newbie have announced they will seek a seat on the Westcliffe town board

Five incumbents and one newbie have announced they will seek a seat on the Westcliffe town board.

Up for grabs are three four-year trustee seats, two two-year trustee seats and the mayor’s seat.

Incumbent mayor Christy Veltrie will run again as will current trustees Audrey Gluschke, Melinda Ruzanski, Joe Cascarelli and Art Nordyke.

Also seeking a trustee seat is Paul Schlesser.

Trustee Twila Geroux is not up for re-election and trustee Lynn LaGree has announced he will not seek re-election.

Those wishing to run for trustee or mayor must pick up and circulate a petition. Completed petitions with at least 10 eligible signatures must be returned to the Westcliffe town hall by March 5.

In addition to choosing trustees and a mayor, Westcliffe voters will be asked to consider allowing the town to publish ordinances by title only instead of in their entirety.

Also, all Westcliffe voters will receive ballots in the mail this year. Ballots will be mailed on March 18 and must be returned to the Westcliffe town hall by Election Day, which is April 6.

Those not registered to vote in the upcoming town election have until March 8 to do so.  Just stop by the county clerk’s office inside the Custer County courthouse.

For more information, call the Westcliffe town hall at 783-2282.
