Housekeeping chores was the focus of the first meeting of 2010 for the Custer
County Board of Zoning Adjustment and
planning commission. The two boards met
on Feb. 8. At that time, each group elected a chair and vice chair. Selected chairman of the board of zoning adjustment was Skip Northcross while
Gerry Dearborn was named vice-chairman. Vic Barnes was elected chairman of the planning
commission and Keith Hood was elected vice-chairman. Zoning office director Jackie Hobby was selected
secretary for both boards, the courthouse bulletin board was chosen as the official posting place and the Wet Mountain Tribune was named
the official newspaper for the
publishing of notices. Next, county attorney John Naylor reminded members of
both boards and alternates to act as a group instead of individually when
making land use decisions. He also cautioned them to follow all state rules and
regulations regarding talking about issues outside of official meetings. Board members and alternates were also presented a handbook explaining those rules and regulations among other
information. The Custer County Planning Commission is the land use planning group for the
county. They are responsible for
preparing the county master plan, zoning regulations and subdivision regulations. The planning commission also serves as an investigative
and advisory group to the county commissioners in the administration and
preparation of the
land use documents. The board of zoning adjustment is a quasi-judicial body established to hear variance requests to and appeals from
the zoning regulations. Planning commission members are Pat Bailey, Vic Barnes,
Bill Donley, Keith Hood,
Sherry Rorick, Rod Coker and Paul
Buckles. Buckles was absent at the Feb. 8 meeting. All three county commissioners—Lynn Attebery, Jim Austin and Carole Custer--were present at the
Feb. 8 meeting. BZA members are Gerry Dearborn, Dee Hoag, Skip Northcross, Dave Tonsing and Ken
Patterson. All were present at the Feb. 8 meeting. Associates who serve as alternates on both boards
are Roger Camper, Dorothy Nepa,
Cindy Howard, Brad Stam, Ken Lankford and Dale Mullen. Camper and Lankford were absent at the Feb. 8
meeting. The next planning commission meeting is slated for March
9 at 1 p.m. in the county courthouse. The lone agenda item is a public hearing to consider a
vacation of parcel lines and replat of Pines Ranch
LLC. The BZA has no agenda items to consider, therefore,
there will be no March meeting. – |
