Friday, July 31, will be a family affair in Westcliffe when the legendary western music group Sons of the San Joaquin joins with the up-and-coming acoustic phenomenon Sons and Brothers Band for a special one-night-only concert at the Westcliffe Event Center at 7 p.m.

The Western harmony of the Sons of the San Joaquin, Joe and Jack Hannah and Joe’s son Lon, features a rich, burnished vocal blend and distinctive sound that has carried the Hannah family from local church and community gatherings to such far-flung locales as Switzerland and Japan. Television appearances include the Grand Ole Opry and Austin City Limits. Live performances range from rodeos in the West to New York City’s Carnegie Hall. The Sons of the San Joaquin’s recent appearance at the House of Blues in Los Angeles found their longtime supporter, actor Ed Harris, providing a glowing introduction. The Sons of the San Joaquin present the finest in traditional western music to be found anywhere and are truly a national treasure.

The Sons and Brothers Band is back with a bang following the loss of band leader Frank Wolking in 2008. The band now consists of Wolking brothers Mike, Aaron, Joe, everybody’s favorite uncle Fred, and fiddle wizard Johnny Neill. Sons and Brothers are continuing to push the envelope of acoustic, gospel, and western music by bringing an energy and excitement to the music that is both infectious and exhilarating. Brilliant instrumental work, heart-wrenching vocals and songs that take the listener on an emotional journey through joy, pain, and ultimate triumph are the elements that make up every Sons and Brothers performance.

Don’t miss the Sons of the San Joaquin and the Sons and Brothers Band together in 2009! The concert will be held under the big tent at the Westcliffe Event Center at the west end of Main St. next Friday at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $15 available at Candy’s Coffee, 103 S. Second St., 783-9516 or by calling Sons and Brothers Events, 783-3351.For more information, please visit www.sonsandbrothers.com.
