This year’s 4-H and FFA livestock sale may not go down in the record books as the biggest ever, however, with overall sales topping the $95,000 mark, the young Custer County sellers seemed to walk away happy.

This year’s buyers purchased a total of 68 animals—nine steers, 41 pigs, 14 lambs and four goats—for $95,048.70. Last year’s sell of 72 animals brought in $129,550.50.

The steers sold for $27,459.20; the swine sold for $48,592.50; the lambs sold for $16,860 and the goats sold for $2,137.

FFA’er Lia Coleman’s 1,233 lb. grand champion beef was purchased by Rancher’s Roost for $4,623.75.

Rancher’s Roost also purchased Kaylene Squire’s 262 lb. pig for $1,179, Jaycie Cardenas’ 284 lb. swine for $1,136, and Wyatt Wommack’s 287 lb. swine for $1,004.50.

Corey Barnes’ 121 lb. lamb, as well as Noah Tillotson’s 134 lb. lamb, were also purchased by Rancher’s Roost for $968 and $824.10, respectively.

Lastly, Ranchers Roost bought FFA’er Whitney Curtis’ 73 lb. goat for $730. Curtis’ reserve grand champion goat was purchased by White’s Excavation for $462.

At the end of the day, Rancher’s Roost had procured seven animals for a total of $9,426.62. They were among the biggest supporters of this year’s fair.

Cooper Excavating paid $4,294.20 for Matilda Davis’ 1,263 lb. reserve grand champion beef.

The grand champion swine was raised by FFA’er J.T. Gillmore. Palace Drug of Canon City purchased the 279 lb. pig for $3,208.50. Palace Drug also purchased Gillmore’s lamb for $1,628.

The reserve grand champion swine was raised by Edward Sandoval. Westcliffe Super Market purchased the 276 lb. pig for $1,380.

Other animals purchased by Westcliffe Super Market were FFA’er Colleen Smith’s swine for $1,179 and Dalton Wommack’s swine for $996.

Sangre De Cristo Electric paid $2,227 for Sydney Camper’s grand champion lamb, while Lindner Chevrolet of Canon City bought Matilda Davis’ reserve grand champion lamb for $2,095.

Other big supporters of the livestock sale were Colorado Mountain Bank, which purchased one steer, three swine and one lamb for a total of $7,173, and Trail’s End Ranch, which was the high bidder on five swine and two lambs for a total $7,148.50.
