|The 2017 Community Spirit Campaign is nearing its conclusion, and there are just a few hours remaining for donors to make contributions to local nonprofit organizations.
As of Tuesday of this week, there was a total of $295,336 in the campaign. That compares to last year’s year-to-date total of $242,200.
Donors who contribute to nonprofits through the campaign will have matching funds added to their donations. Last year, about 25 cents was added to every dollar contributed.
Last year, more than $355,000 was distributed among nearly 70 nonprofit groups headquartered in Custer County or providing direct services to the county. While it’s too early to say, it’s likely that this year’s campaign will exceed last year’s total.
To make a contribution, make a check out to WMVCF (Wet Mountain Valley Community Foundation) and designate one or more nonprofit organizations and the amount going to each.
The funds can be mailed to the WMVCF at P.O. Box 718 in Westcliffe. Donations need to be in-hand or postmarked no later than Dec. 31. (With the 31st falling on a Sunday this year, the final postmark date should be Dec. 30.) Any funds received after that date will go to the designated nonprofit, though they won’t qualify for matching funds.
This year’s campaign is the 14th annual; since its inception, some $3.8 million has been shared among local nonprofit groups.
